The Queen Katherine School has a large, diverse and very
experienced Design & Technology team, consisting of eight
teaching staff and two supporting technicians. The department
caters for each element of technology at KS 3 and KS 4 as
well as offering Design Technology at A-Level.
Projects at KS3 are designed to
cover the requirements of the National Curriculum and offer
students the opportunity to discover and experience a variety
of different materials, workshop tools and design activities.
In years 7, 8, & 9 students follow a carousel system;
this allows them to experience a different technology subject
every 6/7 weeks. These subjects include Food, Textiles and
the core technology subjects of Graphics, Electronics and
Resistant Materials.
At KS4, students specialise in
one of the areas covered in lower school. Each of the chosen
subjects will begin Year 10, with one or more minor projects
consisting of both folderwork and practical tasks. This is
followed by the major coursework that accounts for 60% of
the GCSE final mark and is made up of folderwork 20% and practical
work 40%. The remaining 40% of the total marks are awarded
from examination results. |
